A ten-year research of 650 British and European people reveals that eating a diet rich in tomatoes and fruits, particularly apples, may help smokers’ lungs heal faster. People who ate more than two tomatoes or three parts of fresh fruit per day, especially apples, had a slower deterioration in lung function than those who ate less than one tomato or one item of fruit per day, according to the study.

Another study published in the journal Thorax indicated that persons who ate five or more servings of fruit and vegetables per day were 40% and 34% less likely to develop chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respectively (COPD). Each additional serving of fruit or vegetables ingested resulted in a 4% reduction in the risk of COPD in former smokers and an 8% reduction in the risk of COPD in current smokers.

Green tea, which has a significant amount of catechins, is roughly as efficient as tomatoes and apples in preventing the loss of lung capacity that occurs with age and is aggravated by smoking. Catechins are molecules that can aid in blood pressure regulation, weight loss, and brain illness prevention. Green tea catechins can help break up and remove mucus deposits in the lungs. Green tea also has antibacterial characteristics that aid in the improvement of lung health.

Turmeric has potent anti-inflammatory qualities, making it beneficial in reducing the effects of smoking on the lungs. Turmeric contains curcumin, which has high antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer effects and protects the lungs from nicotine-induced damage.

Inflammation and blockage of the airway can be caused by cigarette smoke. Curcumin protects against the development of inflammatory lung disorders like COPD. Curcumin protects the lung from carcinogens included in cigarette smoke and inhibits the development of lung cancer. Turmeric’s curcumin protects other organs from harm caused by smoking.
