Jalandhar, June 28 :- In a major push to improve the infrastructure of government schools in the Jalandhar, civil works worth Rs 1090.65 lakh were completed in 705 government primary/upper primary schools of the district under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
Providing details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that funds worth Rs 1124.45 lakh were received for civil works in 718 government schools of which works had been finished in 705 schools of Rs 1090.65 lakh. He said that 97-percent works in remaining 13 schools had been completed. He further said that repair and maintenance works were carried out in 588 schools of the district at a cost of Rs. 450.47 lakh while additional classrooms were constructed in 93 schools of Rs. 636.01 lakhs. Apart from this, separate toilets for girls were repaired in 24 schools at a cost of Rs. 4.16 lakh.
Expressing satisfaction over the completion of the works, Ghanshyam Thori directed the concerned authorities to ensure timely completion of civil works in remaining schools and ensure submission of utilization certificates of grants.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration was committed to provide quality education facilities and state-of-the-art infrastructure in the government schools.
