CM Shri Chouhan paid tribute to Shaheed Mangal Pandey
Today is the 194th birth anniversary of Amar Shaheed Mangal Pandey, who first blew the bugle of the freedom struggle in the country. He was born on July 19th, 1827 in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. He was a soldier of the 34th Bengal Infantry of the East India Company. He is respected as a hero of the freedom struggle. The British feared that the spark of rebellion that Mangal Pandey had lit could become a flame across the country. Therefore, 10 days before the fixed date, Mangal Pandey was hanged on 8 April 1857. In 1984, a postage stamp was released in his honour by the Government of India for his important role in India’s freedom struggle.
