District administration will honour panchayats who do not burn paddy straw: Avneet Kaur

District Administration has been making all efforts to curb stubble burning incidents. Agriculture Department is carrying out extensive awareness in the villages and persuading the farmers not to burn stubble. Disclosing this Additional Deputy commissioner (Rural Development) said that under IEC component of the crop residue management scheme in District S.A.S Nagar 75 Village level camps, 370 wall paintings, 9 machinery demonstrations, 9 School mobilization rallies and poems/painting competitions have been conducted so far. Similarly mobility van is spreading no burning message to the farmers continuously since 19th September 2022 and literature is also being distributed in the villages where this van is moving for farmers awareness campaign. The Department had distributed 75 machines under crop residue management scheme in the year 2021 whereas during this year sanctions for purchasing 424 subsidised machines have been issued to the different farmers of the District.
Two industries namely M/s Nachiketa paper mill ltd. Village Mubarikpur, Derabassi and M/s YCD industries, Lalru in the District are using paddy stubble bales in their boilers. Around 50,000 ton paddy stubble will be managed with in this year, which will save around 25,000 acre of land under paddy cultivation from burning.
In district Mohali, 87 no. Nodal Officers, 71 no. Patwaris and 35 no. Cluster Officers have been deputed for monitoring of stubble fire incidents. All sites being reported by Punjab Remote Sensing Centre are being visited by Nodal Officers and Patwaris within 48 hours. District Administration is also carrying out activity of extinguishing the stubble fire observed during field visit. Teams reached such sites immediately on receipt of information. Stubble fires were extinguished by teams in many places such as village Gadanga, Tehsil Kharar, Sheikhpura Tehsil Derabassi, village Basman, Banur etc and further spread of fire was stopped. Punjab Pollution Control Board has organised State level facilitation program on 29.10.2022 at Kisan Vikas Chamber, Mohali during which around 160 farmers of the State which have not burnt paddy stubble during this season were given appreciation certificates by Speaker, Punjab & Cabinet Minister, Environment Department during the program.
