RAJOURI, JUNE 01, 2021: District Legal Services Authority, Rajouri in collaboration with the education department today organised an online awareness event to mark World Anti Tobacco Day.
The purpose of the event was to highlight the risk associated with the use of tobacco and motivate the public to avoid its use.
Students and staff of around 80 schools across the district participated in the virtual event.
Secretary (Sub Judge) District Legal Services Authority, Surender Thapa was the chief guest, while Danish Aziz Educationist and expert from UNICEF was the guest of honour.
Six students from different schools threw light on the importance of celebrating this day. Those who spoke include Adeeba Rasool (Girls HSS Thannamandi), Mohd Tariq (Boys Model HSS Thannamandi), Sumera Pervaiz (Girls HSS Rajouri), Razia Parveen (HSS Behrote), Suhani Gupta (Girls HSS Nowshera), Navjot Singh (Boys HSS Nowshera).
Ayaz Raina moderated the programme & also spoke at length on the consequences of tobacco consumption on the human health and methods of its cessation.
The Chief Guest, in his address, discussed in detail the figures of tobacco consumption in the world, the business practices of tobacco companies, and what WHO is doing to fight the tobacco epidemic. He also threw light on what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations.
