DO YOU KNOW WHAT THESE THINGS ARE CALLED?

Humans started naming things as soon as languages evolved. There are numerous things from fruits to objects for which we got names. Nobody knows how these names evolved, mainly due to scientific purpose of things and the task they did. The names are never ending. The only way we can find out name of certain things is by using dictionary. However, the Oxford Dictionary contains around 600,000 words and does not cover all the words. A major crisis arises when we are unable to know the name of objects or stuff we use on a daily basis. To help you through, here are some English words defining things you might not know-

1. Zarf- The cardboard thing you see on a coffee cup is called a zarf. It’s purpose is to make it easier for you to hold on to the hot coffee cup.

2. Ferrule- When you use fancy pencils with erasers at their back, you might have noticed a joint between the pencil and the rubber. The rubber is usually fitted into the metal piece attached behind the pencil. It is called a ferrule.

3. Snellen Chart- When you visit an optician, he or she tests your eye sight before giving you glasses of your prescription. For this purpose, he might test your eyes using a chart which consists of alphabets. This is called a snellen chart.

4. Aglets-  If you are a shoe lover, this fact might be interesting for you. When you tie your laces, you might see a metal ending to your laces. This prevents the lace from getting unwoven. This metal piece at the end if the laces is called an aglet.

5. Muntins-  Something that makes house look beautiful are windows. If you notice a window carefully, you’ll see tiny wood used between the frame and the glasses of the window. They are called mutins.
