Do’s and don’ts to prevent heat rash and fungal infection

Elevated temperatures and high humidity increase sweat gland activity, leading to excessive sweating. This can clog pores, causing or worsening acne or pimples. Blocked sweat ducts may result in heat rash (miliaria). Warm, humid conditions also promote fungal growth, especially in skin folds and sweat-prone areas. Fungal infections like jock itch or ringworm appear as red, itchy rashes in the groin, inner thighs, and buttocks, while athlete’s foot causes itching, redness, and a scaly rash on the feet. Intertrigo and pityriasis versicolor are other common fungal infections in summer.

Prevention Tips:

Dos:

  • Keep your skin dry.
  • Cleanse all body folds with soap during bathing.
  • Dry all body folds, including between the toes, after bathing.
  • Wear loose cotton clothes.
  • Shower after gym or workout sessions.
  • Keep the diaper area dry and change diapers frequently.
  • Exercise outdoors during the coolest parts of the day or move your workout indoors to an air-conditioned space.
  • Use fans, cool showers, and air-conditioning to keep your skin cool.

Don’ts:

  • Avoid scratching or rubbing affected areas.
  • Do not wear tight nylon or polyester clothing.
  • Do not neglect early signs like red, scaly patches.
