28th April, 2022 :-   Considering that the Medical Oxygen is highly supportive to combustion, there is a need to be extra careful for the fire safety issues in all the Health facilities i.e. both in the Government sector and in Private sector especially during the ongoing summer season.

  1. Last year there were many incidents of fire in Hospitals located in other parts of the country especially due to sudden increase in consumption of oxygen during the second wave of COVID. During the month of April/May 2021, all the fire hydrants at the GMCH-32 and Hospital at Sector-48 were tested and mock drills for sensitization about fire were carried out in association with the Fire Department. Most probably similar exercise might have been conducted by the other Health Facilities also.
  2. Now again we need to immediately carry out fire safety audits in all the Health Facilities and the exercise to be completed within next 15 days positively.

(i) All the existing fire extinguishers to be checked, refilled and revalidated in case of being expired.

(ii) All the oxygen points to be got checked from some technician to ensure there is no leakage and are properly closed after that.

(iii) Since oxygen is highly supportive to combustion, the required number of fire extinguishers and fire hydrants should be available in working condition.

(iv) Any other relevant actions/measures as per advice of the Fire Department.

  1. Further all the medical and para medical staff need to be sensitized to ensure that the fire exits remain clear all the time and should not be blocked by the idle stretches/trolleys.
