The Chairman, Punjab Kala Parishad Dr. Surjit Patar and President, Punjabi Sahit Akademi Dr. Lakhwinder Singh Johal today released the short biography of Tokyo Olympics-2021 Gold Medal winner Neeraj Chopra titled ‘Golden Boy Neeraj Chopra’ penned by sports author Navdeep Singh Gill.

In a simple but impressive ceremony held at the Punjabi Bhawan Ludhiana, the literary masterpiece was dedicated to the people amid the presence of the author and his family members. It is the 7th book written by the author and the 6th one placing focus on the sports as well as the sportspersons. The book has been brought out by the Lokgeet Prakashan and is an excellent piece from the genre of children’s literature.
The book has 72 pages and covers the life history and achievements of Neeraj Chopra right from his childhood to Tokyo Olympics, in colour. The book very aptly covers achievements of Neeraj, his sports technique, his numerous awards and contemporaries in various chapters. The look of the book gets enhanced by the coloured photos in each chapter.
On the occasion, Dr. Surjit Patar said that the biography of the champion player would act as an inspiration for the budding players and the future generations. He lauded the painstaking effort of Navdeep Singh Gill to chronicle the sporting history through his magical pen.
In his address, Dr. Lakhwinder Singh Johal said that it is a good omen that the inspirational biographies based children’s literature is being written for the school children. He also divulged that the literature written about sports and sportspersons plays a significant role in the creation of a robust society.
The author Navdeep Singh Gill on the occasion said that Neeraj Chopra is the first Olympic Champion athlete whose story must reach every household. Disclosing further, he added that children’s literature books on Olympic Champion Shooter Abhinav Bindra and World famous athlete Usain Bolt are under printing.
Among others present on the occasion included Father of the author- Surjit Singh Sehna, Amritpal Singh Bhangu USA, Noted poet Dr. Ravinder Batala, Senior journalist C. Markanda and Satbir Singh.
It is noteworthy that Navdeep Singh Gill who is serving as Information and Public Relations Officer in the Punjab Government, has penned 6 books earlier viz. ‘Khed ambar de Punjabi sitare’, ‘Mein ive vekhiyan asiaye khedan’, ‘Akkhin vekhiyan Olympic khedan’, ‘Naulakha Bagh’, ‘Tokyo Olympics de saade hockey sitare’ and ‘Uddna Baaz’.
