Stop discrimination against states in fight against Covid pandemic, Bhagwant Mann asks Union government

Chief Minister must put pressure on Union government for medicines and oxygen

Chandigarh, May 7, 2021

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab president and Member of Parliament Bhagwant Mann has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop discriminating against the states in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic and release the supply of oxygen gas, medical equipment and medicines, required to save the Covid patients. In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Friday, Bhagwant Mann said that the Corona virus had badly affected the residents of the states and union territories of India. He said that Punjab is an important state of India and the number of Covid victims in Punjab was increasing day by day and the mortality rate of Covid victims in the state was very high, which was a matter of great concern.

Mann said that there was a dearth of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff as well as life saving equipment, oxygen gas and medicines in the state. “While Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is responsible for the recruitment of doctors and other staff, the Narendra Modi-led central government is responsible for the supply of oxygen and medicines,” he added.  Mann further said that the central government was not providing enough oxygen and injections for the treatment of the victims, whereas on the contrary, the BJP-ruled states were being provided with exclusive supplies. He said that the Punjab government should be ready to deal with the deteriorating situation in Punjab due to the Covid pandemic.

Mann asserted that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh should put pressure on the Union government for the required medicines and oxygen in the hospitals of the state. He further said that the Union government was also discriminating against the state of Delhi, but the Arvind Kejriwal government was also fighting in the Delhi High Court to get enough oxygen to save the lives of its people and the supply of 700 tonnes of medical-grade oxygen was completed for the first time after the High Court repeatedly reprimanded the Centre. The AAP leader said that the efforts of the Delhi Government was also welcomed by the Congress MPs from Punjab and the Chief Minister had been advised to deal with the Centre on the lines of Delhi to save the lives of the people of the state.
