Maheshinder S Grewal tells CM that he should immediate sack Sodhi and also order recovery of double compensation taken by the family from the same piece of land
Chandigarh, May 7 , 2021 : The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh to immediately sack Cabinet Minister Rana Gurmeet Sodhi and book and arrest him for pocketing double compensation for his family’s land which was acquired by the government for a road project in Ferozepur district.
In a statement here, SAD Spokesperson Mr. Maheshinder Singh Grewal said now that it had been established that the Minister and his family had pocketed double compensation for a piece of land acquired by the PWD department, the chief minister should take immediate action in the matter. He said the people of state were watching that how Minister Rana Sodhi and his family members cheated the State by taking compensation twice for the same piece of land in 1962 and then again in 2013. He said the PWD department had revealed that a compensation of Rs 1.83 crore had been awarded to the minister and his family after they approached the court and obtained a verdict in their favour by concealing the facts of the case.
Mr Grewal said that now when the Sodhi family had been issued notice by the Supreme Court, it was imperative for the state government to act against the guilty. He said probity in public life demanded that Capt Amarinder Singh acted immediately to set an example. He said it was also the CM’s constitutional duty to protect the government treasury from day light robbery.
The SAD leader said a case of cheating and forgery should be registered against all guilty in the matter. He also asked the CM not let his friendship with Rana Sodhi come in the way of performing his official duties and sack the minister immediately.EOM
