CHANDIGARH
Since the outbreak of Covid-19 in India, the lives of many people have been affected. The country has already witnessed two waves of the pandemic, with the second being more aggressive than the first. Keeping in view of the situation in other countries and spread of Covid-19 variants in India, the third wave of Covid-19 has been predicted by the health experts.
Though the cases in the Tricity are dipping every month, authorities believe that any complacency in following the covid guidelines issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) or local authorities can invite infection spread in the community.
Medical experts believe that the immunity against the virus starts ebbing after six months of getting infected. The second wave in Chandigarh was recorded in April and May, and the immunity of those infected will now start decreasing with each passing week.
Meanwhile, the union health experts are yet to decide on the booster dose of anti-covid vaccines, which can be the third or fourth dose of your vaccination cycle.
‘Centre predicts surge after October 15’
As per the union government, fresh Covid-19 cases can start rising in October. The period between October 15 and November 15, has been regarded as ‘crucial’ as an increase in cases during this period can lead to a peak of cases in December.
The union ministries have said that the crucial period can last up to December 15, keeping in mind two 15-days cycle after the festive season.
“Any complacency in following Covid-19 appropriate behaviour, especially in view of the festive season, can lead to another surge in Chandigarh and neighbouring states. Cases may peak after Diwali (November 4)”, said Dr Amandeep Kang, former director, health services, Chandigarh, while talking to media persons.
As the festival season is around the corner, including Navratri, Karwachauth, Dussehra and Diwali, more crowds are expected at the marketplaces, with Covid-19 guidelines going for a toss.
