First Job Fair: More than 700 youngsters turned up to transform fortunes

484 got jobs in various companies, 75 selected for Skill Training & 56 for self-employment

To ensure job avenues for harnessing the potential of technically skilled manpower of the State, the 7th Mega Job Fair has been kick started in SAS Nagar under Punjab Government’s flagship programme Ghar Ghar Rozgar Mission.
Inaugurating the job fair at Government College Dera Bassi, the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kuldeep Bawa said that four job fairs were being organized in the district to facilitate employment to more than 50 thousand youth of the district from September 9 to 17. He said that the State Government under the visionary leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh made dedicated efforts with focused approach in providing enormous employment opportunities to the youth through ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar and Karobar Mission’, Job Fairs, District Bureau of Employment and Enterprise (DBEEs) besides apprising the unemployed youth about Self Employment Schemes through distribution of DBEE’s information manuals/brochures.
Giving the breakup of the jobs provided to the youth, the SDM informed that out of the total 50 thousand jobs on board, More than 700 candidates attended the Job Fair, He said that our aim is to improve employability through skill training/skill up-gradation besides identifying the areas having potential for employment generation and to harness that potential with government intervention,
Divulging details, Deputy Director DBEE Meenakshi Goyal, apprised that apart from other companies, prominent employers like ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Pukhraj, Zomato, SWARAJ, NAHAR, participated in the present Job Fair and provided jobs to 484 youngsters. Apart from this 75 youngsters have been selected for SKILL Training & 56 for self-employment opportunities.
For the success of the Job Fair, Principal Govt. College Derabassi Dr. Amandeep Kaur & Placement Incharge of the College Mrs. Simmi Johal made full impetus with arrangements and mobilization of students/candidates. GoG’s and VLE’s played a vanguard role for the mobilisation of students for making the event a big success. During the event/exhibition, Punjab Government departments running schemes for self-Employment were also organised. Departments motivated the participating candidates with displays of literature and brochures regarding the schemes run by their departments. Deputy CEO Manjesh Sharma and Employment Officer Harpreet Sidhu were also present along with other officers.
Meanwhile, District President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Deepinder Singh Dhillon also visited the venue and motivated the youngsters to take advantage of these initiatives.
