Government has lost faith, people do not trust Captain: Kultar Singh Sandhwan

Traders and farmers struggle against lockdown

Says, government is using lockdown as a weapon to hide its shortcomings and failures

Chandigarh, May 8, 2021

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and Kisan Wing president Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that the traders and farmers were protesting against the lockdown being imposed in the state by the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government, which shows that the Captain government had lost faith and the people no longer trust Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Saturday, Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Captain-led Congress government had to provide good treatment to the sick in the hospitals as well as the shopkeepers, laborers and other businessmen of the state; but the Punjab government had not been able to make good arrangements for treatment in hospitals nor had it helped the shopkeepers and businessmen, thus failing on every front.

Sandhwan said that in order to cover up its failure, the Captain government was now resorting to lockdown which was ruining the economy of the state and increasing unemployment. He said that due to the forced lockdown being imposed since last year, businesses in the state were going down. “As a result, the shopkeepers, traders and industrialists are on the brink of ruin. They have been unable to repay bank loans, shop and factory rents and wages,” he added. Sandhwan said that as a result, the shopkeepers, laborers and industrialists were forced to take to the streets against the Captain government.

The AAP leader further said that the farmers of the state were already waging a nationwide struggle against the black farm laws and instead of supporting the farmers, laborers, shopkeepers and industrialists in this dire situation, the Captain government had chosen to lock them up and starve them. Sandhwan said that every human being loves his life and no one wants to take to the streets, but everyone was forced to do business to support their families as the Captain government had not yet helped any section financially or by providing food. He appealed to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to self-contemplate on why the people of the state were taking such decisions.
