Chandigarh, August 15, 2020 : Haryana Governor, Mr. Satyadeo Narain Arya paid his respects to the brave martyrs and freedom fighters of Haryana in a programme organized at Raj Bhavan on the occasion of 74th Independence Day. He said that while on one hand, the State Government has taken extensive measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, on the other hand, the pace of development work has been kept steady in the State for which it deserves appreciation. He said that he feels proud that he has got the opportunity to serve the people of the brave soil of Haryana.

Mr. Satyadeo Narain Arya received the Guard of Honour and inspected the parade after unfurling the National Flag at the Independence ceremony held at Haryana Raj Bhavan for the first time following the COVID-19 Protocol norms. He said that just as the people of the country fought in solidarity by rising above caste and religion, during the freedom movement, the people of the country have shown solidarity in dealing with the pandemic like COVID-19.

He said that today is a day of great pride for the people of India. Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Lala Lajpat Rai, Shaheed Udham Singh, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Chandra Shekhar Azad and thousands of known and unknown patriots laid down their lives for the nation’s independence. Similarly, leaders like Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Maulana Azad worked for national unity and nation building.

Paying his respects to all the brave martyrs, Mr. Arya said that the heroes of Haryana have contributed significantly to the nation’s freedom movement. Even today, every tenth soldier in the nation’s army belongs to Haryana. He said that from time to time, the heroes of Haryana have set a new example of national security.

The Governor said that not only the country and the state, but the whole world is suffering from COVID-19. In such a situation, doctors, nurses, policemen, electricity, sanitation workers and volunteers are working to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection by putting their lives on the line. He said that these Corona Warriors have worked for the COVID-19 patients without any social, religious, caste and community discrimination, due to which the death rate of COVID-19 in the State is 1.14 percent. Similarly, the recovery rate of COVID-19 in the state is more than 83 percent. He said that all this is being made possible with the cooperation of all government employees, government and non-governmental organizations and socio-religious organizations engaged in the prevention of spread of infection along with the commitment of the State Government.

Extending his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the Corona Warriors engaged in the prevention of COVID-19 infection, he appealed to the people to follow all the social distancing norms and use masks and sanitizers while going out for necessary work.

He said that even during COVID-19 pandemic, Haryana is among the leading states in the country in per capita income, industrial production, automobile industries, foreign investment, education, sports, army, agriculture, transport and livestock etc. Adequate electricity is available in Haryana today. To reduce the cost of production in agriculture and to make agricultural activities economically profitable, farmers are being supplied electricity at cheaper rates. A provision of Rs 6040 crore has been made for electricity subsidy in the year 2020-21. Similarly, 24 hours electricity is being supplied to 4538 villages of the state under the ‘Mhara Gaon-Jagmag Gaon’ scheme.

Mr. Arya said that Fasal Bima Yojana has been implemented for farmers in the state. Under this scheme, farmers have been given compensation of Rs 43,81,17000. Similarly, with the objective of making the crop procurement process transparent in the state, Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal has been developed, on which more than 8 lakh farmers have registered their land. Water has been delivered uptil all tailends to meet the irrigation needs of the farmers.

Mr. Arya said that Haryana is second in the country in food grains production and per capita milk availability.

Describing Haryana as a state that has enhanced India’s pride in sports at the international level, the Governor said that Haryana has implemented a new sports policy to develop sports culture.

Mr. Arya said that with a view to provide better health services in the state, a target have been set to open a medical college in every district. Haryana is also the first state to implement the ‘Ayushman Bharat Yojana’. He said that a meaningful effort has been made by the State Government to extend benefits of the government’s schemes to the last person standing in the line.

The Governor said that the amount of various social security pensions including “Old Age Honorarium ” has been increased from Rs 2000 to Rs 2250 monthly. Similarly, lakhs of students belonging to scheduled castes and backward classes have been given scholarships under the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Meritorious Student Scholarship Scheme and the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme.

The Governor said that Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi has envisioned to make the country self-reliant and doubling the income of farmers by the year 2022. Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal is constantly endeavouring to achieve this goal. The Chief Minister deserves congratulations for this,  he added.

He paid tributes to the freedom fighters and martyrs and wished for prosperity for the people of the state and a bright future for the youth.

On this occasion, Parade Commander, Mr. Varun Singla commanded the parade of Haryana Women Police and a Police contingent. The women police was led by Sub-Inspector Ms. Sheetal and the Police contingent was led by Sub Inspector Mr. Ashok Kumar.

Lady Governor, Mrs. Saraswati Devi, Secretary to the Governor, Dr. G. Anupama, IG, Ambala Range, Mr. Y. Puran Kumar, Advisor to the Governor, Mr. Akhilesh Kumar among others were present on the occasion.
