1. Shailputri: The term “Shail” means a mountain and “Putri” means daughter. Thus, the name implies that the goddess was born in the Himalayas and is like a daughter of the mountain. She is a depiction of peace and stability in your life.
2. Brahmacharini: refers to the goddess who meditates to attain salvation. The goddess walks with a bead necklace in her hand which is a sign of knowledge. This form of the goddess is most worshipped in Kashi.
3. Chandraghanta: is the goddess of victory. This form is very popular all over India. The goddess is called Chandraghanta because of a bell shaped crescent moon sign on her forehead. She rides a lion.
4. Kushmanda: The word can be broken into three parts: Ku meaning little or less, Usha means energy, and andarefers to the spherical universe. Thus, she is regarded as the goddess of creation who is worshipped for prosperity in life.
5. Rakandamata: word is derived from Rankanda which means God Kartikeya. The goddess is the mother of Karikeyaor Rakanda, thus the name Rakandamata.
6. Katyani: Another name for the goddess is Katyani. The goddess is called Katyani because the first sage to worship the goddess was Sage Katyayan. She has 18 hands in her representation.
7. Kalratri: Here the goddess is compared to the night. She appears in a dark skin due to her comparison with night. She is believed to safeguard everybody and bring prosperity.
8. Mahagauri: She is fair and rides a white bull dressed in white clothes depicting peace. She motivates people to always move ahead and do better in life.
9. Siddhidatri: She is the goddess of victory. Any thing you wish in life can be granted to you by this goddess. She also motivate people to enhance their skills and do better in life.
