Is vaccination enough to fight covid-19?

CHANDIGARH

At the peak of the Covid pandemic, vaccines emerged as a lifesaver. Population fought against the implications of the SARs-COV-2 virus. Vaccines have proven to be a boon during the most uncertain times and due to their effect, people started trusting and accepted the importance of getting jabbed.

However, when a new Covid variant named omicron emerged, experts were clueless whether the vaccines are efficient enough to beat this variant.
The new mutated variant, which is mild as per the experts, is supposed to evade vaccine-induced immunity, which is one of the major reasons behind the hike in the number of Omicron cases, even among fully vaccinated individuals.

As per the reports, preliminary research recommends that COVID-19 vaccines conducted in most countries offer an insufficient omicron variant. Yet, it was found that the existing vaccines looked like a safeguard against severe Omicron.

While Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, when supported by a third booster dose, revealed some success at curbing infections from Omicron, unfortunately, these two mRNA vaccines are not available in most countries, said the medical experts.

As we know that covid-19 vaccines are not as powerful to protect us from the omicron variant or any other variant in the future, so we need to take preventive measures to stay safe.

People who are getting into the clutch of this variant are those who are already a patient or battling any health disease. Another population who is still unvaccinated are at great risk. That said, we must take important steps to be on the safe side.

As the new variant is highly communicable and can evade vaccine immunity, people should maintain their safety by wearing masks, maintaining social distance and by avoiding gatherings.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Areas, where the numbers of covid cases are increasing day by day, should keep the masks mandatory and people who are not fully vaccinated or are unwell should not go to any crowds or visit any close contact to stay protected”.

Also, the US health agency advises people to maintain a distance of 6 meters from others and to avoid close contact with people who are sick.

New year eve is around the corner and people, as well as the clubs, are high on spirits and all set to celebrate. However, one should not forget that the Omicron variant is lurking in and spreading like fire. Make sure to avoid social gatherings, do not host indoor parties, and refrain from visiting crowded areas.

The SARs-COV-2 virus is highly unpredictable and can infect anyone. Instead of visiting house parties, celebrate the occasion with your near and dear ones at your own house. When things will get back to normal then parties can be done, As health is more important than the celebration.
