Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal said here today that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was lying brazenly on health sector achievements in Delhi while the RTI queries clearly reveal that health facilities in Delhi are a disaster and the worst in the country

“ Delhi became a national health disaster under Kejriwal especially on the Covid front. Kejriwal had presided over the total collapse of the health infrastructure in Delhi and should not try to mouth lies and mislead Punjabis with false promises when he had failed to achieve anything, “ said Mr Badal

The SAD President was addressing newsmen at a function held to induct former MP Varinder Singh Bajwa back into the SAD from the Congress party. While welcoming Mr Bajwa and his entire team back into the SAD, he also announced the latter’s appointment as Senior Vice President in the party.

Earlier while speaking about the ‘second guarantee’ made by the Delhi chief minister in Ludhiana, the SAD President said “it is astonishing that Mr Kejriwal is simply repeating in Hindi what has already been announced by the SAD on August 3 last month”. Mr Badal said there was a lot of difference between the announcements made by Kejriwal and that done by the SAD. “We have a track record of delivering on our promises. We have established AIIMS, PIMS, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences and upgraded all community health centers in Punjab during our term in office. Kejriwal has not done a single thing”.

Quoting information sought under the RTI, Mr Badal said the AAP government in Delhi had not added a single new hospital from 2015-2019. He said similarly no new beds were added to existing hospitals during this time frame. Mr Badal said this was not all. “The Delhi government admitted officially in high court in 2019 that 35 government hospitals were in dilapidated conditions with inadequate manpower. Even the Supreme Court pulled up Delhi government in June 2020 for deplorable condition of hospitals and mismanagement of Covid treatment. The State witnessed 25,000 Covid deaths. More than 103 doctors died during pandemic in the State”.

Expressing shock as to how Kejriwal could tom-tom his guarantee on health to Punjabis after having such a bad track record on health in Delhi, Mr Badal said “Kejriwal is trying to befool Punjabis with the failed Mohalla Clinic model of Delhi by promising 16,000 Village Clinics in Punjab. I would like to point out that Kejriwal promised 1,000 Mohalla Clinics in Delhi but could open only 480 clinics in six years. Even out of these 270 were lying closed in March 2020”.

Ridiculing the “guarantee” given by Kejriwal, Mr Badal asked him “have you said you will leave politics if you don’t fulfill the promises being made by you?” He also pointed out how the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) had to come to the rescue of people when the Kejriwal government was not able to provide oxygen to Covid patients. “Incidents like AAP legislator Jarnail Singh’s entreaties to get treatment which remained unheeded leading to his death are still fresh in the minds of the people”.

When questioned about the ongoing circus in the Punjab Congress, the SAD President said the Congress should clarify as to who would be the chief ministerial candidate of the party. He said the real issue in the party was the fight for the top chair. “It is apparent that Navjot Sidhu wanted a rubber stamp chief minister and when Mr Charanjit Singh Channi did not oblige he resigned in a huff”.

Mr Badal said chief minister Charanjit Channi was part of the dispensation which had failed each and every section of society. “Channi was part of the cabinet and is as much at fault for failing Punjabis as former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh. It is also true that Channi never raised his voice against corrupt deeds like the SC Scholarship scam and has even now not proceeded against former minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot who was responsible for denying scholarship to SC students”.

Mr Bikram Singh Majithia and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema were also present on the occasion.
