Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ropar on Tuesday organized its Annual Scientific Advisory Committee meeting under the chairmanship of Dr. Gurjinder Pal Singh Sodhi, Additional Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana. Dr. P.P.S. Pannu, Additional Director of Research (Natural Resources & Plant Health Management), PAU, Ludhiana, co-chaired the meeting. Dr. S.C. Sharma, Associate Director (Rtd.), KVK Samrala and Dr. Manmohanjit Singh, Director, Regional Research Station, Ballowal Saunkhri were the special invitee. Officers from allied departments, progressive farmers and farm women participated in the meeting.

In his remarks, Dr. Gurjinder Pal Singh Sodhi stressed upon the need to promote resource conservation technologies with special emphasis to crop residue management. He urged the farmers to adopt various PAU technologies for natural resource management. He also motivated the KVK scientists to transfer PAU technologies in every nook and corner of the district.
Dr. P.P.S. Pannu stressed upon the diversification of the crops and encouraged the farmers to grow oilseeds, pulses. He also motivated the farmers to adopt integrated farming system, processing of agricultural produce for better economic gains. He suggested KVK to facilitate farmers/ farm women in marketing of their products.
Dr. S.C. Sharma motivated the farmers to go for agroforestry. Highlighting the importance of human health, he emphasized that awareness about the importance of nutrition should be highlighted in all the training programmes.
Dr. Manmohanjit Singh highlighted the importance and scope of agroforestry in this region and suggested for collaborative trainings of KVK Ropar and RRS, Ballowal Saunkhri for better impact.
Dr. G.S. Makkar, Deputy Director (Trg.), KVK, Ropar welcomed all members of the Scientific advisory Committee. He presented the action taken report and progress report of KVK Ropar.
Dr. Sanjeev Ahuja, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) presented the annual action plan of KVK to seek suggestions from all house for preparing a robust training schedule for next year.
SAC members gave their valuable suggestions in light of current issues like water and resource conservation, CRM, training needs of rural youth and farmers, etc.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Aparna, Assistant Professor (Livestock Production).
Later, a visit of dignitaries was arranged to the exhibition stalls, technology park, seed production plots and demonstration units at KVK farm.
