The Postgraduate Department of Mathematics, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organised Bhartiya Ganitam- an event to celebrate National Mathematics Day 2021. The event was sponsored by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Government of Punjab. The celebration included Essay Writing and Power Point Presentation Competitions on the topic ‘A Brief History of Indian Mathematics’. The competitions witnessed enthusiastic participation of 79 students. Cash prizes were awarded to first three position holders in both the competitions and e-certificates were given to all the participants.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded the efforts of Mathematics Department to apprise the students of the rich legacy of ancient Indian Mathematics. She added that the contribution of the great Indian mathematician Aryabhatta should be an inspiration for the young mathematicians to work for advancement of this discipline.
