MCM holds Science Setu talk on Malaria Vaccine

Celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate 75th year of Independence, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organised an online Science Setu talk on the topic ‘Malaria Vaccines- Hurdles and Opportunities’. Organised in collaboration with National Institute of Immunology (NII), New Delhi, the talk had Dr. Agam Prasad Singh, Scientist VI, Head, Infectious Diseases Laboratory, NII as the resource person. Dr. Meenakshi Munshi, Consultant DBT also joined the session and highlighted the importance of Science Setu programme for students. During the highly interactive session, Dr. Singh deliberated on various aspects of malaria, current status of malaria vaccines, the after effects of malaria vaccines, medicines and alternative therapies available to combat the disease. He further shed light on the Government of India’s initiative to control the disease and future plan of action. Dr. Geeta Mehra, Head, Department of Food Science at the college thanked the expert for enlightening the students on such a relevant topic and motivated the participants to take up career in research. The session culminated with question answer round and a Quiz.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded the Science Setu initiative for educating young minds and encouraging scientific temper. She added that for the greater good of mankind, it is extremely important to motivate the youth to take up scientific research through such programmes.
