To mark the celebration of World Intellectual Property Day, the Postgraduate Department of Chemistry at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, under the ageis of Institution Innovation Council, organised an awareness session on Intellectual Property Rights. The resource person for the session was Mr. Vijay Gupta, Advocate, Lexntech IP Law Office, New Delhi. A total of 93 students and faculty actively participated in the event. The session was an endeavor to acquaint the participants with various challenges associated with Intellectual Property Rights and information regarding patents especially the chemical patents.

Mr. Gupta focused on types of patents and their importance in industry, and discussed copyright, artistic design in literature, trade secret, validity for IPR protection and need for patent protection. In an initiative to develop entrepreneurial skills of the students, IIC of the college organised Online Demo Day/Poster Presentation Competition on Business Model Canvas. Around 21 students actively participated in the competition. The participants presented innovative entrepreneurial ideas using the nine components (customer segments, value propositions, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partnerships, and cost structure) of Business Model Canvas. The entries were judged on the basis of innovation, uniqueness and creativity. Cash prizes were awarded to the top three winners.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava appreciated the efforts of IIC and said that the college will continue to inculcate innovation and entrepreneurship culture in the students through such initiatives.
