MCM NSS holds Dengue Awareness Campaign at Badheri

In order to raise awareness about dengue so as to control its spread, the NSS units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh held Dengue Awareness Campaign in the adopted village Badheri in two phases. During the first phase, the NSS volunteers alongwith Mr. Kulwant Singh, MPHS, and Mr. Subash Chander, Multi-Purpose Health Worker, Health Department, U.T. Chandigarh visited 174 houses and sensitised the residents about the preventive measures to check spread of dengue. The events included an awareness rally on dengue, cleaning of residential and market areas, clearing of stagnant water, removal of broken containers and tyres, door to door inspection of coolers and trays behind refrigerators that serve as breeding grounds for vectors, distribution of dengue awareness pamphlets to the residents and nukkad natak that highlighted the preventive measures for curbing the spread of dengue.

In the second phase, the NSS volunteers visited the Anganwadi, Shopping Complex and Government Model Senior Secondary School at Badheri village to generate awareness about dengue. During this phase, Mr. Ranjit Singh, Multi-Purpose Health Worker and Dr. Inderpal, Epidemiologist at Health Department, Chandigarh, instructed and guided the volunteers about the need to keep our surroundings clean for containing the spread of dengue. The students of Government Model School were apprised about the urgency to stay informed about the causes of dengue and to prioritise cleanliness at all times. The students were also educated about the symptoms, effects and major preventive measures. The volunteers also collected substantial data of the people in the village which helped in analyzing the safety standards of the village. The campaign was carried out by following all the COVID-19 protocols.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded this timely initiative of college’s NSS units to draw attention to dengue, the cases of which are on the rise. She informed that the NSS units of the college contribute effectively towards the society by undertaking appreciable work in varied fields including Swachhta Abhiyan, rural resurgence, disease awareness programmes, sensitisation programmes and the like.
