CHANDIGARH
Cough is caught when you stay near the person suffering from the cold and cough flu or use his or her belongings, shared food or utensils. Even if you are drinking cold beverages for a long time then also your throat gets infected.
If you visit a doctor then they will give you some antibiotic course which you have to follow for seven days. But if you want a long term outcome from your virus then choose home remedies which you can try daily and prevent from catching the cold and coughing again.
Here are few home remedies which can cure the cough timely:
- Steam – One of the simple and effective ways to cure the cough and cold is to take a hot shower and steam and allow the bathroom to fill with steam. Stay in this steam for a few minutes until you feel relief. Steam reduces mucus or phlegm. Drink a glass of water afterward to cool down and prevent dehydration.
- Salt water Gargle- This simple remedy is effective for treating both sore throat and wet cough. Salt water reduces phlegm which decreases the cough. Stir half a teaspoon of salt into a cup of warm water until it dissolves. Gargle with salt water several times each day until the cough improves. This method cannot be used by the young children as they may not be able to gargle properly, and swallowing salt water is dangerous for them.
- Honey: Drop a few drops of honey in your herbal tea in a day for quick relief. Drink two to three times a day.
- Ginger: You can add a slice of ginger in tea to reduce the cough as it has anti-inflammatory properties. But be careful excess ginger can cause heartburn and diarrhoea.
- Apple cider vinegar – Diluted or mixed with honey helps thin mucus.
- Turmeric may help ease digestive problems
- Chicken soup may ease symptoms of cough
- Stay hydrated- Drink boiling water throughout the day to prevent the immunity system getting lower.
