CHANDIGARH
Pneumonia is an infection either in one or in both of your lungs. It is caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi. When there is an infection in the lungs, several changes come in the body. The symptoms of the infection can range from minor—cold and flu-like to some major.
The most common pneumonia symptoms are: Chest pain while breathing or coughing; coughs which contain phlegm or mucus; fatigue and loss of appetite; fever, sweating, and chills; having nausea, vomiting, and even diarrhoea; and shortness of breath.
However, according to the doctors, Pneumonia can be very risky for:
- Infants under age 2 and over the age of 65- As we all know that the immune system in infants develops when they are under age 2. They don’t have the strength to fight against the infection. Even the immune system of older people gets weakened after the age of 65 and is unable to fight illnesses.
- People with health issues have weakened immune systems. Examples:
- People who are battling with cancer and are receiving chemotherapy
- People who have donated or transplanted organ recipients
- People who are suffering from HIV/AIDS
- People with autoimmune disease and who are taking medications that destroy the immune system.
- People who have health conditions that affect the lungs or heart. Examples include: Asthma, Heart diseases
