1408 MT of paddy has arrived in grain markets of district Barnala of which 1014 MT has been purchased.

Giving this information Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mr Kumar Saurabh Raj stated that there are 98 grain markets in the district wherein procurement has begun in 15 markets and all arrangements have been made for procurement. He added that till Oct 11, 1048 MT of paddy had arrived in mandis of which 1014 MT paddy had been purchased. Pungrain has purchased 357 MT, Markfed has purchased 355 MT, Punsup has purchased 257 MT and Punjab State Warehouse has procured 45 MT of paddy. Around 8.75 MT of paddy arrival is expected this season.

Besides this for kharif season 2020-21 , release order of 2.27 lakh was released for paddy arrival of which had come from districts of Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran,  Kapurthala, Pathankot, Ferozepur, Jalandhar and Fazilka. This season too release order of same amount is expected.
Deputy Commissioner convened meeting with District Food and Civil Supplies Controller, representatives of procurement agencies and directed that farmers should not face any kind of problem in mandis. Earliest payment of procured grains was also instructed.

DFSC Mrs Sweety Devgan said all arrangements regarding gunny bags, transport and labor have been made. She added that procured grains are being lifted and payments are being directly made into the bank accounts of farmers. She appealed farmers to bring only dried up grains in the market so that they do not have to wait for their turn for procurement.

Flying squads check paddy from other states

DC Mr Kumar Saurabh Raj added that flying squads have been formed to check pilferage of paddy from other states in Barnala. These nakas have been put up by market committees Barnala, Tapa, Dhanaula, Mehal Kalan and Bhadaur.
