Punjab government doubled the amount of financial assistance (war jagir) to the families of soldiers

Chandigarh, November 6

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab welcomes Mann government’s decision to amend “The East Punjab War Awards Act, 1948” for enhancing the financial assistance of 83 beneficiaries from Rs 10,000 per annum to Rs 20,000 per annum.

Addressing a press conference from the party office in Chandigarh AAP spokesperson major RPS Malhotra, along with Col. Mandeep Singh (2 Sena Medals) and Naib Subedar Parmod Kumar, said that the Government of Punjab provides War Jagir as financial assistance to those parents whose only child or two to three children had served in the Indian Army during the Second World War, National Emergency 1962 and 1971 under “The East Punjab War Awards Act 1948”, Presently 83 beneficiaries are availing benefits under this policy.

Accordingly, Punjab has announced that financial assistance to those parents whose only child or two to three children had served in the Indian Army during the Second World War, National Emergency 1962 and 1971 under “The East Punjab War Awards Act 1948” will be increased from Rs. 10,000/-per annum to Rs. 20,000/- per annum

Major Malhotra also applauded the Mann government for enhancing the ex-gratia grant of Disabled Soldiers with disability from 76% to 100% to  Rs 40 Lakh, disabled soldiers with 51% to 75% disability to Rs 20 Lakh and disabled soldiers with 25% to 50% disability to Rs 10 Lakhs. The move is aimed at ensuring the well being of ex-servicemen and their dependents to ensure that they lead a dignified life in the society.

Major RPS Malhotra said that the Mann government made its intentions clear from day one that it is the government of common people when ex-gratia for the families of martyred soldiers was doubled from 50 lakh to 1 crore rupees. He said that children of common families join the army and serve the nation and they deserve the respect and the Mann government will ensure that respect. He added that Agniveers will also get the same respect and benefits from the Punjab government. Major Malhotra concluded that Punjabis are 2% population in India but they contribute more than 7% in Indian forces so these decisions of the Mann government are of high significance.
