Rajasthan a leading state in the country with development of international-standard sports facilities: Chief Minister

Announces to institute ‘Rajiv Gandhi KhelRatna Award’ in state

  • To increase prize money in Guru Vashisht and MaharanaPratap awards
  • Inauguration of High Performance Sports and Rehabilitation Center at SMS Stadium
  • Renovated Synthetic Hockey Astro Turf and Badminton Indoor Hall inaugurated

Jaipur, 29 May. Chief Minister Shri Ashok Gehlot said that the State Government is leaving no stone unturned in promoting sporting talent by developing facilities of international standard. The State Government is taking major decisions for the development of sports in the state with a commitment to encourage sports and sportspersons and strengthen sports infrastructure. He expressed confidence that Rajasthan will become number one in sports across the country. He said that sports are always played with vision and firm intention, similarly the State Government is also taking decisions with a vision in promotion of sports. He also said that the incentive amount for the medal winners would continue to increase.

 

Shri Gehlot was addressing a huge gathering at the inauguration and player felicitation ceremony at Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday. He also inaugurated the Rajasthan High Performance Sports and Rehabilitation Centre, Renovated Synthetic Hockey Astro Turf and Badminton Indoor Hall and felicitated the medal winners of Rajasthan in Olympics and Para Olympics, and those who qualified for Asian Games-2022 and Commonwealth Games-2022. Shri Gehlot also launched the online portal for providing incentive to medal winning sportspersons. International medal winning players thanked the Chief Minister for the decisions taken in the interests of sportspersons.

 

Rajasthan is taking the lead in medal count

The Chief Minister said that in the past there was concern that India was not able to win medals compared to many smaller countries, but now Rajasthan is taking the lead in Olympics and Para Olympics. The decisions taken by the State Government in the interests of the players are becoming fruitful. He said when he was the Sports Minister in the Central Government, then there was a deep-rooted desire to take sports forward. That wish is now being fulfilled. Now the atmosphere of sports in Rajasthan is changing. The State Government, determined for sports development, will increase the facilities as per the suggestions received from sportspersons, experts and the sports council. He said that proposals are also being received from MLAs to develop sports grounds. Efforts are being made to build Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadiums in every block.

Shri Gehlot said that the State Government is running many ambitious schemes to develop basic sports facilities and provide training to sportspersons in the State.

 

Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympics from August 29

The Chief Minister said that the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympics will start from August 29, 2022. Over 27 lakh players of all ages will be seen on the field. The event will prove to be massive platform for talent hunt in the State. An environment of sports will be created in villages. He said that the winners in rural Olympics would also be given priority in the recruitment to vacant posts in the contractual cadre. He also flagged off the torch of Rural Olympics at the ceremony.

 

Portal to give incentive to medal winners

The Chief Minister said that the medal winning players will no longer have to come to the Sports Council for grant money. Online portal has been launched to make the process accessible. Shri Gehlot said that the state government will not leave any stone unturned in honoring the outstanding sportspersons.

 

Out-of-turn appointments and free land allotment

Shri Gehlot said that 229 players who excelled in Rajasthan have been given appointments in various services under out-of-turn policy. Along with this, a provision of 2 percent reservation has also been made for the players. He informed that Sports Person Pension has been started for Arjuna and Dronacharya Awardees along with medal winners of Olympics, Para Olympics, Asian and Commonwealth Games. He said that an important decision was taken to allot 25 bighas of land free of cost to the Olympics and Para Olympics medal winners. He also announced to increase the prize money for Guru Vashisht and MaharanaPratap Awardees.

 

Now, players of Rajasthan do not go to other states

Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs, Shri Ashok Chandna said that the environment for sports has completely changed due to the decisions and policies of the State Government. With wide expansion of sports facilities and increased competition among players, their future is being secured. With this, Rajasthan is emerging as a leading sports state in the country. The result of this is that now the players of Rajasthan are not going to other states.

 

Dr. Krishna Poonia, chairperson of the Rajasthan State Sports Council, said that Rajasthan has become the state where jobs are being created after winning medals. Now the athlete from Haryana is also looking towards Rajasthan.

ShakuntalaRawat, Minister for Disaster Management Shri Govind Ram Meghwal, MLA Shri Rafiq Khan, Shri NarendraBudhania, President of Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation Shri DharmendraRathore, Vice President of Rajasthan State Sports Council Shri.Satbir Chaudhary, Principal Secretary Shri Naresh Thakral, players and coaches from all over Rajasthan were present.
