Reasons why you are missing your periods

Reasons why you are missing your periods

The female body goes through a change around every month. But women tend to worry if they miss their period. Besides pregnancy, there are a number of reasons why you may have skipped your period this month. Lets have a look.

Stress

High levels of stress hormones can interfere with menstrual hormones surges, resulting in a delayed cycle.

Low body weight

Being too thin is not a good sign for a woman’s body. It may create serious issues in pregnancy. Low body fat can be a good reason that one will begin to skip periods.

Excessive exercise

Working out is good but if there is too much exercise, then hormones will be disrupted. Just as with stress, it can impede ovulation. Therefore, exercise should only be practised in a certain limit.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

PCOS is a very common problem today due to poor lifestyle habits. It’s an endocrine disorder that has many symptoms, such as lack of or irregular periods, ‘cysts’ on the ovaries, fertility issues and weight gain. It can also cause excess body hair, acne, thinning hair, and depression.

A couple of irregular periods per year are usually nothing to worry about. Any more than that can be an ovulation problem. In such a case, a gynaecologist should be consulted as soon as possible.

What should you do if your periods suddenly stop?

If a woman gets her period regularly but suddenly stops having them for two to three months, then she should consult a doctor because it could be a serious problem.

As mentioned above, there can be many reasons why periods can be absent but if amenorrhea persists at an early age, a doctor should always be consulted.
