As per the directions of NALSA & under the able guidance  of  Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sh. Ajay Tewari, Judge Punjab & Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, Punjab State Legal Services Authority and under the guidance of Sh. Rajinder Aggarwal, Ld. District & Sessions Judge cum Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala, National Lok Adalat pertaining to all types of cases (except non compoundable criminal cases) was held in District Patiala on 12.3.2022.  On the eve of National Lok Adalat, 31  judicial benches ( Patiala 22, Rajpura 04, Nabha 02, Samana 03 ) were constituted in District Patiala.  During this National Lok  Adalat, 4069 cases under different categories were settled through mutual compromise involving amount of Rs. 459604775/-.

During this National Lok Adalat, Sh. Rajinder Aggarwal, Ld. District and Sessions Judge Patiala and Ms Perminder Kaur, CJM/Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala visited the benches of this National Lok Adalat and encouraged the parties to settle their dispute amicably. During the visit in the Ld. Court of Sh. Harish Anand, Principal Judge, Family Court, Patiala, a divorce petition titled as Parmod Kumar Vs Veena was being heard by the Lok Adalat Bench. This petition was filed by the husband against his wife in the year 2019 for seeking divorce. Grievances of the parties were heard. Parties were persuaded by Sh. Rajinder Aggarwal, Ld. District and Sessions Judge and With the able assistance of Lok Adalat Bench and the Learned Counsels for the parties, they decided to reside together. The litigation came to an end being compromised in the National Lok Adalat.

While telling about the benefits of Lok Adalats, Sh. Rajinder Aggarwal, Ld.  District & Sessions Judge, Patiala told that when a case is settled in Lok Adalat, its award becomes final and no appeal lies against it. Moreover, court fees (if any paid ) is refunded to parties and parties to dispute get speedy disposal of their dispute and that too as per their own mutually settled terms. So, there is a win-win situation for both the parties. Primary objective of the Lok Adalats is to settle the disputes amicably through compromise so as to save the time and money of the parties and to reduce personal enmity between them. Except, non-compoundable criminal cases, all kinds of cases, even at pre-litigative stage, can be brought before lok adalats for amicable settlement. On this occasion,  Sh. Rajinder Aggarwal made an appeal to the public that they should settle their disputes in Lok Adalats so that they can save their valuable time and money.

Ms Parminder Kaur, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala told that in this lok adalat, pending cases in the courts U/S 138 of Negotiable Instruments Act, money recovery cases, MACT Cases, labour and employment disputes cases, electricity, water bills and other bill payment cases (excluding non-compoundable), Matrimonial disputes(Except divorce), Land Acquisition cases(pending before civil courts/tribunals, Services matters(relating to pay & allowances and retrial benefits), other civil cases such as rent, easmentary rights, injunction suits, specific performance suits etc. were taken up.  Further, Pre litigative cases relating to money recovery cases of banks and financial institutions, labour and employment dispute cases, water bills and other bill payment cases (excluding non-compoundable), prelitigative matrimonial cases were also taken up in this National Lok Adalat.
