Although foodborne illnesses cannot be completely avoided, they can be considerably reduced when you have the right information and equipment. To avoid foodborne illness while preparing food, use the following suggestions.

While making food, do not consume any food or beverages. Cross-contamination can occur while eating or drinking during the food preparation process.

When your hands touch your mouth while eating, or your hands touch the lip of a glass where your mouth touched, and then your hands touch the food again, germs and bacteria can spread.

Use different cutting boards for different sorts of food on a regular basis. Using one for raw beef, one for raw poultry, one for produce, and one for dry items keeps bacteria from spreading from one food to the next. After each use, properly clean each board.

Don’t forget to check your refrigerator.

Place raw beef or poultry on a drip catching tray on the lowest shelf accessible in your refrigerator during defrosting.
