The veteran Congress Leader Surjit Kaur Kalkat was cremated with due State honours at Mohali here today.
Deputy Commissioner along with ADC and SDM laid the wreath and paid homage on behalf of the State Government while Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti and Deputy Mayor KS Bedi paid last respects on behalf of Health Minister who was out of town. Police personnel gave the gun salute.
Bibi Surjit Kaur Kalkat , the two time MLA from Tanda, Hoshiarpur had passed away after prolonged illness in Mohali, on May 29. Bibi Surjit Kaur was a prolific lady politician who was considered as one of the most humble and honest leader of the Congress party of Punjab. She made her name and served as a parliamentary secretary and as an cabinet minister of Punjab. Her demise triggered a wave of shock and grief with leaders cutting across the Congress spectrum of Punjab paying glowing tributes to the astute leader.
She is survived by Dr. Tejwant Singh Kalkat (Son) and Smt. Supinder Kaur (Daughter).
