World Philosophy Day celebrated by the MCM Sophies Club of MCM

The MCM Sophies Club of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Sector 36-A, Chandigarh celebrated World Philosophy Day. The celebrations revolved around the theme “The Human of the Future,” delving into the significance of technological progression, ethical quandaries, and the existential web of humankind. World Philosophy Day is an international day proclaimed by UNESCO to be celebrated every 3rd Thursday of November which falls on the 16th of November this year. “The Human of the Future” assumes a paramount significance against the backdrop of our era’s relentless technological advancements and ethical obligations and questions. The event began with an introductory emphasis on the importance of World Philosophy Day and a discussion on the theme. This was followed by a thought-provoking play centered around the sensitive topic of euthanasia. It aimed to explore different perspectives on the ethical dilemmas surrounding end-of-life decisions. The narrative left the audience contemplating their views and questioning societal norms, contributing to a deeper understanding of the topic. The event concluded with a menti quiz in which attendees were invited to participate in the real-time quiz and answer questions which allowed for a dynamic exchange of ideas among the participants. The principal of the college, Dr. Nisha Bhargava, appreciated the efforts of the MCM Sophies Club and the theatrical exploration of euthanasia. She added that celebrating such days with meaningful dialogue underscores the pivotal role of philosophy in navigating the labyrinth of contemporary challenges.
