YPS Mohali lifts U-14 All India Inter Public School Cricket Championship at Pune
Chandigarh, October 22:
Yadavindra Public School Mohali emerged as Champions in the All India Inter Public School U-14 Cricket Championship held at BK Birla School, Pune.
In the finals, YPS Mohali outclassed DPS Mathura Road, Delhi by 26 runs to lift the trophy. Winning the toss and electing to bat YPS, Mohali made 115/6 in the allotted 20 overs with the opening partnership of 99 runs between Captain Ayan Srivastava (33) and Vice Captain Anhad Singh (46).
In response, DPS Mathura was bundled out for 89 in 17.5 overs with all bowlers contributing to taking wickets at regular intervals.
The highlight of the final was an absolute stunner of a catch by Anhad Sandhu who ran back about 15 meters reminding cricket lovers of the catch taken by Kapil during the 1983 World Cup to dismiss Sir Viv Richards.
Ayan Srivastava Captain of YPS, Mohali was Man of the match in quarters, Semis, and Finals of the tournament and was adjudged best batsman of the Championship with a total score of 146 runs with Vice Captain Anhad Sandhu following suit with 139 runs. Spinner Vir Singh Bhasin became the highest taker by bagging 8 wickets.
Emerging Wicketkeeper Harjagteshwar Khaira, all 11 years, won accolades for 5 dismissals behind the stumps and was justifiably chosen as the Best Wicketkeeper.
Besides, Akanksh Thakur took 7, Ayan Srivastava 5, Gurman Sidhu 5, and Jaskirat Singh took 4 scalps in the tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, YPS Mohali outplayed DPS RK Puram, Delhi in the semi-final by 59 runs. Batting first, YPS Mohali scored 125 in 20 overs with the DPS RK Puram team being bowled with mere 66 runs on board.
In quarter-finals, YPS Mohali beat BK Birla School, Pune by chasing 115 in 19.3 overs.
YPS Mohali also remained unbeaten in the league matches in the tournament.
In a congratulatory message to the team, Director YPS Major General TPS Waraich said that after COVID-19 it was very challenging to start sports activities but with the support and hard work of our sports staff, the ‘Yadavindrians’ have stamped their class by regaining the supremacy at all India level.
Mr. Praveen Singha Coach and Incharge of the YPS Mohali team said that before going into the tournament they played 6 practice matches with the best school and academy teams of the Tricity. “YPS boys beat the winner of UT inter-school competition DAV Sector 8 and runners up St. Joseph sector 44 in the practice matches”, added the Coach.
