5 yoga exercises to keep your eyes healthy and sharp

The health of our eyes is at stake in the modern digital age, when screens have permeated every aspect of our lives. Both children and adults spend a lot of time using electronic devices, which increases the risk of vision disorders at a young age. However, a sedentary lifestyle and the high frequency of endocrine conditions like thyroid and diabetes can lead to a variety of vision-related issues such diabetic retinopathy, macular oedema, cataracts, and glaucoma.

Simple Yoga poses can help us see better, and they are also thought to be useful in preventing the majority of eye-related problems, such as myopia and hypermetropia.

1. Palming

The first step in this yoga exercise is to sit quietly, close your eyes, and breathe deeply to unwind. Place your palms over your closed eyelids after firmly rubbing them until they are heated. The warmth from your hands will relax the eye muscles as they are absorbed by the eyes. To ensure total absorption of the warmth, repeat this procedure three times at the very least.

2. Blinking

Exercise that involves blinking is simple and efficient. You must sit comfortably with your eyes open in order to practice it. After around ten quick blinks, close your eyes and relax for 20 seconds while paying attention to your breath. About five times should pass in this cycle. Exercises that increase blinking lubricate the eyes and ease the strain brought on by extended screen time.

3. Eye Movements

Eye rotation is another yoga health gift to us, similar to blinking. It is also easy to put into practice. Keep your spine straight while sitting up straight. Place your hands on your lap and, without moving your head, turn your gaze clockwise for five to ten minutes, then counterclockwise. Rotating the eyes improves the flexibility and blood flow of the ocular muscles, which benefits vision.

4. Moving Up and Down

The eye muscles can benefit greatly from this yoga therapy. You need to be standing upright on a flat surface or a yoga mat to complete it. Look up at the ceiling, then look down at the ground before looking up once more. 10 times through this action without blinking. Then, softly close your eyes while pressing your palms on them. This practice eases strain and helps to relax the eye muscles.

5. Bhramari Pranayama

One of the most well-liked Yoga treatments for the eyes is called Bhramari Pranayama, and it is carried out while sitting cross-legged in a comfortable position. So, with your eyes closed, cover your ears by lightly pressing your thumbs against them. Put your ring and little fingers at the base of your nose, your index fingers in the space between your brows. Pay close attention to the middle of your brows. Take a big breath in through your nose, hold it for two to three seconds, and then slowly let it out through your nose while making a humming sound.
