United Nations Day was celebrated at S.D. College, Barnala on 25.10.2021 and Sh. Virinder Aggarwal, Ld. District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Barnala attended the same being Chief Guest. Sh. Naresh Singla Vice President, Sh. Hardial Singh Attri Director, Dr. Mukand Lal Bansal Finance Secretary, Dr. Rama Sharma Principal, Prof. Shoaib Zafar and principals of all other colleges run by S.D. College Educational Society Barnala were present there.

The Worthy Chairman, DLSA informed that United Nations Day is an annual Commemorative day, reflecting the official creation of the United Nations on 24th October 1945. He further asked the students about our Fundamental Rights and Duties and informed that the Constitution of India, the longest written Constitution of the world, has envisaged a holistic approach towards civic life in a democratic polity. Certain rights have been guaranteed within the Constitution as Fundamental Rights. Since human conduct cannot be confined to the realm of Fundamental Rights, the Constitution has envisaged certain duties, which are correlated to the rights, and those duties have been discharged as Fundamental Duties. Sh. Hardial Singh Attri, Director and Sh. Jagsir Singh Dhaliwal, Panel Advocate also delivered lectures on Fundamental Rights and Duties. Sh. Jagsir Singh also made the gathering aware that every vehicle which should be run on road, firstly same should be insured then be same driven on road.

The Worthy Chairman, DLSA Barnala informed that NALSA-Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav from 2nd October 2021 to 14th November 2021 and Legal Services Week from 8th November 2021 to 14th November 2021 would be celebrated. Under this programme, “Plastic Free Barnala” drive has been started on 2nd October on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti from District Administrative Complex, Barnala to make people aware not to use plastic envelopes and shopkeepers, Vendors etc were also appealed that when any customer comes to their shop, ask them to bring a cloth bag from home and at the same time and also give the incentive in the form of charging lesser amount, so as to encourage the people for bringing cloth bags from their home. He further informed that a project has been launched at District Jail, Barnala to make paper bags in order to remove plastic bags from the society. For this purpose, proposal mooted by Worthy Chairman, DLSA Barnala, to all Judicial Officers while sending the waste newspaper to District Jail, Barnala, all officers have started sending the same. At the same time, request was made to persons present there, not to dispose of the old newspapers and to collect the same and then hand over the same to the officials of the DLSA so that these can be used for preparation of paper bags which can be used by shopkeepers of Barnala as alternative to plastic bags. It was already decided that start would be made from Pharmacy and Medical stores as medicines are less bulky and can be provided in paper bags.

In this end, The Worthy Chairman, DLSA informed that the persons, who come in the preview of Legal Aid Services, can approach the office of CJM-cum-Secretary District Legal Services Authority situated at District Court Complex Barnala for the said purpose on any working day or can call Toll Free Helpline number 1968.
