Congress also avoids facing AAP’s private member’s bill in Assembly to cancel PPAs
Captain must explain which agreements cannot be canceled and why
Chandigarh, September 2 2021
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and MLA Aman Arora said that the ruling Congress had run away from canceling the deadly power purchase agreements (PPAs) with private power companies and Navjot Singh Sidhu and company was now misleading the public by pretending to get it revoked.
In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Thursday, Aman Arora said the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s remark, “not all 122 power agreements can be cancelled as doing so would create a power crisis”, has made it clear that the ruling Congress does not want to give up the brokerage of the private power companies like the Badals; which is why the Chief Minister on Wednesday reiterated what Sukhbir Singh Badal was saying a few days ago about power deals.
Aman Arora said while the deadly power pacts were robbing the pockets of the people and the exchequer of Punjab; it was like a ‘gold mine’ for Captain and the Badals, therefore there is no hope left for the Congress. He alleged that the Congress was also running away from the debate on power purchase agreements; cancelling them is a big step. “If the ruling party had been even more serious on this issue, they would have accepted the private member’s bill brought by the AAP MLA (Aman Arora) and seriously debated it in the House and on the basis of arguments would have revoked all the deadly power agreements. But the Congress government avoided facing the Private Member’s Bill and instead of convening the session a day earlier, the session was called on Friday, because as per the Legislative Assembly rules, a private member’s bill can be tabled in the House only on Thursday, when the House is in session,” he added.
Aman Arora asked Captain Amarinder Singh if the water agreements between the three states and the Union government could be canceled through the assembly; then why Captain Amarinder Singh could not cancel the agreements made by the previous Badal government with the private power companies. The AAP leader challenged Navjot Singh Sidhu, as the Punjab Pradesh Congress president, to drop the pointless statements and support the AAP’s private member’s bill to cancel the power pacts in the House and issue a whip to his Congress MLAs.
