In order to empower the youth for better job opportunities, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Thursday inaugurated the seventh Mega Rozgaar Mela besides launching the Mera Kaam –Mera Maan program to hone the skills of unemployed youth and free online coaching for various government competitive examinations.
Accompanied by Punjab Youth Development Board Chairman Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, Punjab Backward Classes Land Development and Finance Corporation (Backfinco) vice-chairman Mohammad Gulab, Punjab Large Industrial Development Board vice-chairman Ramesh Joshi, the Deputy Commissioner envisioned that mega rozgaar melas are being organized by the state government have been opening new areas of employment for the youth of the district.
He said that this is the most ambitious initiative of the state government led by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to provide jobs to every household under Ghar Ghar Rozgar Yojna. He said that as many as 200 leading industrial and business giants would be visiting these Melas.
He told that today the first fair has been held in Government ITI Gill road, second would be organized on September 13 in Gulzar Group of Institutes, Khanna, and third on September 15 in SRS Government Polytechnic College of Girls and last fair would be held at September 17 in CICU Focal Point.
The Deputy Commissioner said that these job fairs would open a number of avenues for the youth to be gainfully employed for living a life with dignity and pride.
He said that the companies would select these students as per their needs in due course of time with proper transparency. He added that the job melas would serve two purposes of providing jobs to needy youth of district on one hand and providing skilled manpower to cope up with the needs of local industry on the other.
Deputy Commissioner also launched the Mera Kaam –Mera Maan program to enhance the skills of the unemployed youth and free online coaching for government examinations for the youths.
He said that under the scheme, an employment allowance of Rs 2500 per month for a period of 12 months would be given to the trainees from the start of the training course under the short-term skill training programmes in the Punjab Skill Development Mission training centres.
The allowance would be given during the training period and the registered construction workers and their wards must contact the District Bureau of Employment and Enterprise (DBEE) to get the benefit of the scheme, he added.
He said that free-of-cost online coaching to thousands of unemployed youths for the various competitive exams including Subordinate Service Selection Board (SSSB), Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Police, Railway Board, Probationary Officers Exam and others would be provided by the state government. He also asserted that this would improve the employability of youths and fulfil their dreams of getting government jobs.
The Deputy Commissioner urged the eligible candidates to come forward and enrol themselves for these free-of-cost online classes.
Prominent among present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) Amit Kumar Panchal, Assistant Commissioner (UT) Dr Harjinder Singh Bedi and others were present.
