Peru’s Machu Picchu opens for just one Japanese tourist, here’s why.
Corona Virus pandemic had shut down all tourist destinations in the world. However, Peru’s Machu Picchu was opened up recently after several months, but for just a single visitor. Isn’t this peculiar?
Jesse Katayama is a 26 year old man from Nara who was stuck in Peru since march because of the corona virus lockdown. Jesse bought a ticket for Machu Picchu just days before the country declared a lockdown. Even though his plan was to stay for only 3 days, he got stuck in Peru for 3 months. However, he witnessed a situation of bliss when his plight reached the local tourism authority. They agreed to give him special permission and reopened the site just for him. He was identified by the local media which led to the opening of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
“I thought that I wouldn’t be able to go, but thanks to all of you who pleaded with the mayor and the government, I was given this super special opportunity,” he wrote on his Instagram account.
The local tourism and media truly made Jesse’s visit to Peru worth it by accepting his special request.
