(Bikram S Majithia says appointment of Revenue Minister Kangar’s son-in-law as ETO cruel joke on lakhs of youth waiting for CM to honour promise made to them)
Chandigarh, September 17 2021 The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said the blatant manner in which all rules were thrown to the wind to grant the job of an Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) to the son-in-law of Revenue minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar proved that the Congress party’s “ghar ghar naukari “ scheme was restricted to family members of ministers and Congress legislators and leaders.
Terming the appointment of Gursher Singh, the son-in-law of the minister as patently illegal, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said it was also a cruel joke on lakhs of youth or Punjab who had trusted chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and his promise to provide one job in each household of the State. “Forget providing any jobs to meritorious and needy youth, the government is bent on adjusting kin of its leaders by bending the rules. Earlier former chief minister Beant Singh’s grandson was given the job of a deputy superintendent of police even though he was not eligible for the same. “Two more appointments – those of the sons of Congress legislators Fatehjang Bajwa and Rakesh Pandey were also cleared by the cabinet but their joining was averted after a vociferous protest by the SAD and people at large”.
Mr Bikram Majithia said the Congress government had not still learned from its mistakes. “Now the government has cleared the appointment of the Revenue minister’s son-in-law despite the fact that he was ineligible for the same. The candidate has property worth crores of rupees which makes him ineligible for appointment on compassionate grounds. Moreover the request for appointment has been made by the family after the passage of the five year extraordinary time bar in such cases”.
Mr Majithia said contrary to the oath taken in the name of the holy Gutka Sahib, the chief minister was oblivious to the need of respecting merit and giving jobs to the deserving. “All Capt Amarinder seems to be interested in is saving his chair. It seems the Revenue minister, who was earlier in the rival camp, has been won over by this extra- constitutional largesse”.
Mr Majithia said the SAD would exercise all options open to it to ensure the illegal appointment was stuck down. “We will also go to the people and create a movement to ensure the injustice done to the youth with this appointment is removed. We also assure Punjabis that in case this appointment is not struck down now we will do so immediately after forming the government in the State in 2022. All such illegal appointments will be reviewed and struck off”, he added.
