Gram Sabhas in each village of the State should meet at least once in six months:- CM Haryana

Chandigarh August 14, 2020: Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal today said that to ensure multifaceted development and reach of various welfare schemes till the grassroots levels, Gram Sabhas in each village of the State should meet at least once in six months as these ‘e-Gram Sabha’ meetings will prove to be very effective in putting rural areas of the State on the path of progress and development.

The Chief Minister said this while presiding over the first ‘e-Gram Sabha’ meeting of Pundrak village in Karnal District through virtual medium held here today.

He said that during these meetings, villagers get an opportunity to put forth their demands, and suggestions in front of the concerned authorities. Not only will their suggestions be heard, but it will also result in making better decisions. He said that in these meetings everyone, especially the youth and retired persons having vast experience should actively participate. He shared that various developmental works amounting to Rs. 5 crore have been carried out in the village.

He directed the officers that necessary developmental work should be carried out in the village on a priority basis. He said that review meetings should be held every six months in which the villagers should be informed about all the welfare schemes and developmental works so that this entire exercise acts as a social audit.

On this occasion, Principal Secretary, Development and Panchayats Department, Mr. Sudhir Rajpal said that the ‘e-Gram Sabha’ is a unique initiative taken by the State Government with the objective of bringing transparency in Panchayats. He informed us that this virtual meeting of ‘e-Gram Sabha’ is completely recorded and is uploaded on the e-Gram Sabha portal so that it can be viewed later.

He said that to date, around 84 ‘e-Gram Sabhas’ have been organized and now the objective is to hold ‘e-Gram Sabha’ meetings in each village as it is going to play a pivotal role in bringing transparency.
