Haryana Government is ensuring that education be imparted to children belonging to economically weaker sections

Poor children will now study under RTE in Haryana
Chandigarh, April 1- Haryana Government has been taking concrete steps to make necessary reforms in the field of education at regular intervals so as to build a robust education system in the State and to ensure that every child gets the Right to Education. Thus, several schemes are being run by the government for the children of poor people and taking benefit of these schemes the students are ensuring a bright future for themselves.

Now, the children of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in the state will get admission in private schools on 25% reserved seats under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act. Government has decided to revoke Rule 134-A of Haryana School Education Rules, 2003. However, those children who have taken admission under Rule 134-A in recognized private schools in the state, will complete their education under Rule 134-A in those schools only.

It is noteworthy that till now in the state of Haryana, two rules were applicable in relation to the admission of children in private schools, of which the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2011 which has been made under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 of the Government of India, as per which 25 seats are reserved for children belonging to economically weaker sections in Class 1 in recognized private schools. Also under Rule 134-A of Haryana School Education Rules, 2003 a provision was made to admit meritorious students of BPL/EWS category from Class II to Class XII to 25% seats in 2007.

Subsequently, the Government amended it in the year 2013. It made a provision to give admission to 10% seats and collecting fees from the children on the basis of the fee being collected in government schools. After revoking Rule-134-A, now the government has ensured 25 percent admission to the children of poor families in private schools under the guidelines of Right to Education (RTE). It is pertinent to mention here that there was a provision under Rule 134-A of Haryana School Education Rules, which enacted before RTE. The new Act provides 25 per cent admission to the economically weaker section, whereas Rule 134-A used to provide only 10 per cent.
