HEALTHY LIFESTYLE: AN EFFECTIVE WAY OF CONTROLLING DIABETES

A major myth is that diabetes is caused by eating excess of sugar and sweet foods. However, this is not true. Diabetes occurs when your body stops producing insulin which is required to breakdown sugar in your body. People often take it casually and believe that medicine is the only cure. Medicine is important but along with it you also need to regulate your diet and your exercise routine. This way you can get some control over your diabetes and live a longer healthy life. Here are some tips that might help:

  • Eat In Small Portions After Every 3 Hours: Eating every three hours can help you prevent hypoglycaemia. This means low blood sugar which can be fatal for your health and even cause death. To avoid this situation you should eat healthy foods like vegetables and nuts every three hours to keep your blood sugar levels normal.
  • Eat Foods Rich In Fibre: You should eat fibre rich food if you are diabetic. Fibre slows down the digestion process which prevents a sudden increase in the sugar levels. Whole grains and vegetables can be efficient in giving you the average dose of fibre.
  • Exercise Regularly: Make exercise a habit. You should fix a routine and start your day with a light exercise. This can help regulate the sugar levels in your body. If you have a busy lifestyle, take advantage of any opportunity you get. Take stairs instead of a lift. Try walking to the bus stop instead of taking an auto.
  • Eat A Small Meal Before Sleeping: This is a must because while sleeping your blood sugar levels can drop down considerably. It can be harmful and even cause death. Thus, have a fruit and a glass of milk before sleeping.
