Here’s how to keep your neck healthy

CHANDIGARH
Your muscles, especially those in your neck, are worked when you keep your body occupied with physical tasks like walking, exercising, cleaning, gardening, and others. Muscles that are worked keep them strong and flexible, allowing them to execute daily duties.
  • Doing the dishes, for example, may not appear to be a strenuous exercise, but it is.
  • Consider how much more effort your neck has to put in to hold your head while loading the dishwasher or reaching up to put a plate back in the cupboard.
  • Staying active and performing various duties throughout the day exposes the neck to a variety of motions, which helps it maintain its shape.
  • Your neck muscles, on the other hand, become deconditioned if you spend a lot of time sitting or being relatively sedentary. Neck strains and sprains are more likely when the muscles in the neck are weak and tight.
  • It is preferable for your circulatory system to get up and move around rather than sit on the couch or at a computer. Even better, aerobic exercise raises your heart rate and breathing for the length of the activity.
  • Exercise increases blood flow throughout the body, including the upper back and neck, which can help muscles relax and mobility improve. Brisk walking, jogging, swimming, and biking are examples of aerobic workouts.
  • Adults should acquire about 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week, which is about half an hour 5 days a week, according to current standards.
  • It’s likely that your head weighs between 10 and 12 pounds. This is the amount of weight that your cervical spine can hold when your ears are directly above your shoulders and your shoulders are in a neutral position. The load on your cervical spine more than doubles when you bend your head forward 15 degrees.
  • More tension is imposed on the neck’s joints, muscles, and other soft tissues as your head and shoulders slide forward or stoop, which can contribute to pain.
  • Consider a physical therapy program that focuses on your neck and core muscles if you’re concerned about your posture or are currently suffering pain as a result of it. These muscles can be strengthened and good posture can help relieve and/or avoid pain.
  • If you work at a desk job, you should massage your neck with herbal oil. To relieve muscle pain, you can use either a heat pad or an ice pad.
