In the public interest, the common people should be given a one-way route from the farmers protesting at Kundli-Singhu border near Sonepat on National Highway No-44.

Chandigarh, September 14 – While taking up a writ petition regarding the protesting farmers on NH-44, the Supreme Court has asked the Sonipat District Administration to provide way to common people in public interest on the Kundli-Singhu border near Sonipat on National Highway No-44 where the farmers are protesting.

          In compliance of these orders, the Deputy Commissioner of Sonipat district, Sh. Lalit Siwach held a meeting with the farmers’ representatives in Sonipat today. The officers of the District Administration and police were also present in the meeting.

The Deputy Commissioner informed the farmers that while taking up a writ petition (Civil) No.-249/2021 filed by Monicca Agarwaal, the Supreme Court has ordered that the farmers protesting on Kundli-Singhu border in Sonipat district on National Highway No-44 to give way to common man and shift to one side of the road.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the cooperation of the farmers is expected so as to comply with the directions of the Supreme Court. Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Lalit Siwach said that the construction work of National Highway-44 under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has also been blocked for a long time due to the farmers’ protest which is causing inconvenience to the people. With the completion of the construction work of the National Highway, the general public will be at ease. In such a situation, if the farmers give way on one side of the road then the construction of the National Highway will be completed soon. On the request of the Deputy Commissioner, the farmers’ representatives have assured to give a positive reply in this matter.

In this meeting, Superintendent of Police Sh. Jashandeep Singh Randhawa, DSP Sh. Virendra Singh, DSP Sh. Satish Kumar, President of Bharat Kisan Union Doaba, Sh. Manjit Singh, Sh. Kuldeep Singh, Sh. Jagvir Singh Chouhan, Sh. Balwant Singh, Major Singh Poonawal, Sh. Mukesh Chandra , Sh. Gurupreet, Sh. Jogendra Singh, Sh. Bhupendra Singh, Sh. Kulpreet Singh, Sh. Balwan Singh, Sh. Kartar Singh, Sh. Subhash Chandra Somra, Sardar Satnam Singh, Sh. Vikramjit Singh and many farmer representatives were present.
