Incidents of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib during the present regime cause of concern: AAP

AAP leaders visit Kalyan village to take stock of the progress made in the theft of holy ‘swaroops’

When out of power, Badals’ love for Punjab and the Panth becomes more obsessive

Patiala, August 8

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has slammed the Punjab police for the tardy progress over the ancient ‘Swaroop’ of Sri Guru Granth Sahib that went missing from Gurudwara Ardaspura Sahib in Kaliyan village in the district, saying the Amarinder Singh-led government had adopted the laidback stance, like the previous Badal government in dealing with such a sensitive case involving religious sentiments of the people.

Senior leadership of the party, including Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, Kulwant Singh Pandori, Manjit Singh Bilaspur (All MLAs), prominent leader Harchand Singh Bursat on Saturday said, after visiting the Gurudwara Sahib here, in an media interaction that the recurring incidents of theft of holy ‘Sawroop’ during the tenure of the government in the saddle was, besides being a cause of concern, was suggestive of a deep rooted conspiracy.

Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that the tardy progress in the case by the state police with no headway days after the alleged theft pointed accusing fingers towards the functioning of the government machinery, demanding a sitting judge of the High Court monitor the probe into the entire matter. He warned if the government failed to do so by August 17, the AAP would be free to protest, in tandem with ‘sangat’ and other religious bodies.

Jai Krishan Singh Rouri and Manjit Singh Bilaspuri said had the previous Badal government taken strict against those involved in the alleged theft of ‘Swaroops’ of the Sri Granth Sahib from the Burj Jawahar Singh gurudwara, there would have been no incidents of desecration of the holy Granth, including the current theft, adding no delay in dealing with the cases could be tolerated at any cost.

Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Kulwant Singh Pandori and Harchand Singh Bursat on the occasion dubbed the sham ‘Dharna’ by SAD as a mere ploy to earn some political brownie points, saying the SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, leading the agitation had forfeited his moral right to speak on the issue relating to the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
