By enjoying power, congressmen cannot purify themselves by castigating each other before elections
Chandigarh, August 25 2021
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab termed the ongoing rift in the ruling Congress as unfortunate for the state and the people, stating that the only goal of Captain and the Congress was the chair. In 2017, this chair was first looted with big written false promises and now they were fighting among themselves for this chair. This is detrimental to the interests of Punjab and the people as the Congress party is in power in Punjab. In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Wednesday, AAP senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema said the serious allegations leveled by the faction of Congress MLAs and ministers, who are today advocating for ‘Punjab’ against their own government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh; are absolutely correct.
Cheema said in other words, they confirm the serious allegations leveled by the Aam Aadmi Party against the Captain government for the last four-and-a-half years about merging with the Badals and Modi. “But today, four and-a-half-years later, by putting the AAP’s allegations only on Captain Amarinder Singh; Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu and Cabinet Ministers Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Charanjit Singh Channi, Sukh Sarkaria and others do not become righteous,” he said.
Harpal Singh Cheema said for the last-four-and-a-half years, these alleged rebel Congressmen have also been part of the ‘mafia rule’. “These ministers are appointed by the Punjab Cabinet and are equally responsible for every good or bad decision. When the MLAs and ministers have been silently or mainly advocating, they cannot blame the failures of the government on any one person or faction,” he added. Cheema said the Congress party which had been a partner in the blind looting of the resources of the state and the people for four-and-a-half-years had been aroused by the forthcoming Assembly elections in the interest of the people of Punjab; as the people had raised a series of questions.
The AAP leader questioned Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Congress MLAs and Ministers that when the Aam Aadmi Party was seeking answers from the Captain government on mafia, murderous policies and all important issues related to Punjab inside or outside the Assembly, then why did Randhawa, Channi and other ministers and MLAs continue to be the shield of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh? Why did Navjot Sidhu continue to indirectly support the government for months?
Cheema also challenged that if the Congress ministers and MLAs were so unhappy with the Captain government and did not agree with the government; then why were they not overthrowing the government by resigning. “What revolution will you bring in the next five months by grabbing the Chief Minister’s chair, without leaving your ministership?” questioned Cheema. He demanded the resignation of the Congress MLAs and ministers and said that if they were truly pro-Punjab then they should immediately overthrow the government and apologize to the people of Punjab and should not mislead the people in the lure of the chair.
Ministers should explain why government convoys used for Dehradun
Harpal Singh Cheema has pointed finger at the expenses incurred by the ministers on their visit to Dehradun during the Congress’s infighting for the chair. Cheema said whenever there was infighting in the ruling Congress, its direct heat was felt by the Punjab exchequer. He asked whether the ministers who had gone to Dehradun on a convoy of government cars would explain what the personal battle of the Congressmen for the chair had to do with the people of Punjab and the exchequer. “Helicopters have also been misused during such infighting before. Who will account for it?” questioned Cheema.
