Science Week concludes at MCM

The Science Week celebrations at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh culminated with a webinar by the Postgraduate Department of Mathematics on the topic ‘Wonders of Mathematics’. Dr. Neela Pawar, Head of the Department conducted this interesting webinar that shed light on the presence and application of mathematics in our daily lives including nature, art, architecture and so on. Earlier, on day 4 of the Science Week, the
Department of Computer Science and Applications organised a national webinar on ‘Combatting Cybercrime During Covid-19’. The resource person for this webinar was Mr. Arun Soni, Director, TCCS, Author, Cyber Security Trainer, and Certified Ethical Hacker, who enlightened the participants about various possible courses of action as a response to cybercrime. The Department of Food Science, on day 5, organised a webinar on ‘How to Transform an Innovative Idea into a Technology’ by Dr. Rohit Sharma, Chairperson, Department of Microbial Biotechnology and Chief Coordinator, EYUVA, Panjab University and Project Leader BioNEST, Punjab University, Chandigarh. Dr. Sharma stressed on empowering youth for undertaking value added innovative translational research and made the students aware about various grants given to undergraduate level by national and international agencies during Pre-Incubation and Post-Incubation level of research. The Science Week celebrations, held under the aegis of MCM Vigyan Manch and sponsored by Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration, was a huge success as it received overwhelming response from the students as well as academia.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded the efforts of the Science Departments to pay a befitting tribute to Sir C V Raman through enriching webinars and activities that equipped students with knowledge about the latest in the field of Science. She added that promotion of scientific temper and motivating the youth to take up scientific research is imperative for a nation’s progress.
