Healthy tips to prevent kidney stones

CHANDIGARH

Kidney stones are hard deposits of minerals and acid salts that stick together in concentrated urine. The stones can be extremely painful when passing through the urinary tract. The most common symptom is severe pain, usually in the side of the abdomen, that’s often associated with nausea.

There are several reasons which cause stones in the kidneys. Some of them are:

  • Less hydrated- Your body does not receive the amount of water or fluid it requires to work.
  • Exercise too much- A human body can work of which he is capable. If you exercise more than the prior requirement then it’s harmful.
  • Exercise too low – If exercising much is harmful to the body then in parallel no physical activity in a day can also lead to health problems.
  • Obesity – Excess weight can also contribute to the ailments.
  • Weight loss surgery – You had weight loss surgery.
  • Consumption of Salt – Excessive use of sodium in your daily diet can create kidney stones.
  • High Sugar – Increased risk of developing a kidney stone.

To prevent and treat kidney stones one must follow the below mentioned health care tips:

Drink plenty of water: Drink enough fluids to pass the 2 litres of urine in a day as it will flush out the stones through the urine. You can include citrus beverages, like lemonade and orange juice. The citrate in these beverages helps block stone formation.

Reduce sodium: consuming high sodium in your diet can trigger the kidney stone problem because it increases the amount of calcium in your urine. So, a low-sodium diet is recommended for the stone prone. Less sodium is good for your blood pressure and heart. Doctors suggest that your daily intake of sodium should be 2300 mg and if you are affected with the kidney stones then you should limit to the 1500mg

Avoid Animal protein: Eating red meat or poultry eggs, seafood in excess amounts can boost the uric acid and it can further lead to kidney stones. If you’re prone to stones, limit your daily meat intake to a quantity that is no bigger than a pack of playing cards. This is also a heart-healthy portion.

Eat calcium-rich foods: Dietary calcium binds to oxalate in your intestines and thereby decreases the amount of oxalate that gets absorbed into the bloodstream and then excreted by the kidney. This lowers the concentration of oxalate in the urine, so there is less chance it can bind to urinary calcium. That leads to decreased risk of kidney stones.

Apart from sodium and poultry diet, some more food is said to be avoided as they create kidney stones. Chocolate, spinach, rhubarb, tea, and most nuts are rich in oxalate, which can endorse kidney stones. If you are prone to stones then your doctor will tell you the Do and Don’t in which the diet chart will be provided.
