SCIENTIFIC IMPORTANCE OF SHARAD PURNIMA

All the Hindu festivals and celebrations have been existing since ages. We celebrate them with joy and splendour but most of us don’t know the scientific reasons behind them. Here is the scientific concept behind Sharad Purnima to help increase your knowledge:

1.When we translate the word “Moon” from English to Sanskrit, it becomes- “Mun” meaning mind. Our mind is responsible for everything in our lives and holds an important place. The moon is often depicted on the forehead of Lord Shiva which shows it’s importance. It is essential to get control of our mind because only then we can live a peaceful and happy life. Thus, Sharad Purnima is also related to our psychological well being.

2.It is believed that moon has a great effect on our mental health. If we are not in peace with the moon we could be mentally ill. Studies have been done to prove the same and it is somehow true.

3.In California, a study was conducted on patients suffering from mental illnesses. It was found that on some days a few patients either became out of control or they became extremely calm. When matched with Hindu Calendar, it was found that these days were mostly full moon. Thus, it is not wrong when we say that our mind and moon are interrelated to each other.

4.The moon not only holds importance in Hindu religion but also every other religion. Almost all festivals which we celebrate in India are fixed according to the phases of the moon and full moon is regarded auspicious in every religion.

5.On the day of Sharad Purnima the moon is believed to emit beneficial rays which can heal our bidy of any underlying diseases. This is the very reason why people place Kheer outside at night on this day so that all the nutrients are absorbed into it. By consuming that kheer we also inhibit the benefits of those rays.
